Department of Flight Training

It provides teaching of subjects focused mainly on the issue of theoretical training of flying personnel, air traffic control personnel, simulator training of flying personnel and air traffic control personnel. It also performs short-term and medium-term courses in the field of theoretical subjects of flight training and air traffic control.

It guarantees university education provided:

• in the Pilot study program in the specialization of Aircraft Piloting and Air Traffic Management

It carries out scientific and research activities mainly in selected areas of training of flying personnel and air traffic controllers, air traffic safety and air traffic control. It participates in the development and improvement of new methods in the theoretical and practical teaching of flight training subjects.

History of the Department of Flight Training since 2005

The Department of Flight Training of the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University in Košice was established on September 1, 2004 by transformation from the Department of Flight Training of the Slovak National Military Aviation School in Košice. The department continues its activities on the already built foundations of its predecessor, but with a focus on civil aviation.

The Department of Flight Training guarantees and ensures university education provided in the accredited PILOT study program. It provides teaching of subjects focused mainly on the issue of theoretical and practical simulator training of flying personnel and air traffic control personnel. It is a profile department for the specializations of Aircraft Piloting and Air Traffic Management. It also participates in the teaching of the bachelor's and engineering study program Air Transport Management. Members of the Department of Flight Training participate in the creation of civil aviation regulations and standards, participate in domestic and foreign scientific conferences and cooperate with civil aviation organizations.

Since its establishment, the Flight Training Department of the Faculty of Aeronautics  of the Technical University in Košice has trained 256 pilots and air traffic controllers at the bachelor's level.

History of the Department of Flight Training 1973-2004

The Department of Flight Training was established on September 1, 1973, as one of the first departments of the newly established High Military Aviation School of the Slovak National Uprising. The founding teachers (Bohumír Horák, Miroslav Jirásek, Jaroslav Bednaŕík, Ľudovít Polakovič, Ignác Struhár, František Rondzík) began to build the department as a new educational workplace, but they also relied on the rich experience of their predecessors in the field of theoretical training of pilots and other specialists of the Air Force from previous aviation schools.

At the newly established department, it was necessary to build material support for teaching (classrooms and teaching aids), create a teaching material for lessons and, above all, prepare a teaching staff at the required professional level. The past decades have shown that the department fulfilled all the tasks of the educational process, as well as other duties within the school, reliably and with the necessary quality. After the creation of the faculty system at VVLŠ SNP, the flight training department became part of the Command and Engineering Faculty. In 1993, when the faculty system at the school was abolished, the flight training department became the school-wide final department for pilot students and air traffic control students.

Members of the department also participated in the creation of military aviation regulations and standards, participated in military exercises and cooperated with civil aviation organizations. Since its establishment, the department has trained more than 1,700 pilots, air traffic controllers and aviation meteorologists.
